The “Costa Smeralda” is the most known part of the North Est Coast of Sardinia. Porto Rotondo and Porto Cervo are the main destinations for luxury Holidays
We love it becausei is a perfect destination for those who enjoy the sea, water sports, nature and relaxation.
By Plane
The major Italian cities are connected with direct flights to the Olbia airport Milan–Roma–Bologna–Venezia.Direct flights from Germany-Russia-Poland- made this airport very lively and international during the summer .From the airport to the various bases: The faster but more expensive is that of the convenience of a taxi or to book a transfer with one of the NCC minibuses (rental with driver) be careful that they are authorized !!! The second choice – do it yourself – is definitely cheaper but just as inconvenient and time-consuming. Although, in fact, this area is very organized, it does not yet offer public services with adequate timing for the amount of tourists that arrive each year
By Ferry
A valid alternative, especially for those who are thinking of traveling by car is to reach Sardinia by ferry from both Italy and Corsica, you will find different sea transport solutions. Moby line and Corsica line are the companies that carry out those routes. Bus from Olbia airport to the various locations link

SAILING ITINERARIES
LA MADDALENA ARCHIPELAGO
La Maddalena Archipelago National Park is a geomarine protected area consisting of a group of 62 islands situated in the north-east of the coast of Gallura, in the stretch of sea between Sardinia and Corsica known as Bocche di Bonifacio.
The archipelago consists of seven main islands and numerous small islets. The largest one is the island of La Maddalena (Italian: Isola La Maddalena), with an homonymous town, which is the largest settlement at the archipelago. The other six islands, in order of size, are: Caprera, Spargi, Santo Stefano, Santa Maria, Budelli and Razzoli. Only Maddalena, Caprera and Santo Stefano are inhabited. The islands have been inhabited since prehistoric times. They were known by the Romans as Cunicularia and were a busy shipping area during the 2nd and 1st centuries BC. Napoleon Bonaparte, Admiral Nelson and Giuseppe Garibaldi all have historical links with the area. The main access into and out of the archipelago is via the frequent car ferries from Palau on Sardinia that run into La Maddalena, or by private Yacht. There are roads only on Maddalena and Caprera. From 1973 until 2008 the Santo Stefano island was a home for the NATO naval base which housed US nuclear submarines.
MOST FAMOUS BEACHES
With its 180 km of coasts, the Archipelago includes some of the most famous and charming beaches of the Mediterranean: in particular, Spiaggia Rosa (the pink beach) and Spiaggia del Cavaliere in Budelli, the beaches of Cala Coticcio and of the Relict in Caprera, Cala Corsara and Cala Granara in Spargi are worth a mention.
Inlets and bays are unique landscape features: they represent several natural landing stages always offering a safe shelter to the seafarers. Inlets and bays are strictly linked to the colors of the sea for which the Archipelago is famous all over the world, in particular Porto Madonna, Cala Corsara, the Beach of Cala Lunga di Razzoli, Santa Maria, Cala Coticciu.
SOUTH CORSICA & BONIFACIO GULF
Corsica, a mountainous Mediterranean island, presents a mix of stylish coastal towns, dense forest and craggy peaks (Monte Cinto is the highest). Beaches range from busy Pietracorbara to remote Saleccia and Rondinara. It’s been part of France since 1768, but retains a distinct Italian culture.
Departing from one of the suggested embarkation bases on north coast of Sardinia, it is possible to easily reach south Corsica . The best it would be to book the yacht for 2 weeks, in order to have enough time to discover more places. But even with one week it is still possible to visit and enjoy the main destinations.
The main destination are Porto Vecchio and Bonifacio
From la Maddalena Archipelago it takes around 23/30 NM sailing to PortoVecchio.
This village is very well known to be considered the St. Tropez of Corsica.
You can enjoy bars and restaurant embraced by a chic atmosphere.
DIVING SPOTS
PICCHI DI COTICCIO
In the east of Caprera, a deep inlet offers an ideal shelter from the west wind and the northwest wind, and here you will find three diving buoys. In the surrounding area, fishing is not allowed and it is possible to pass through at a speed of no more than 3 miles.
The bottom is characterized by sequences of granite bastions alternating with deep channels characterized by tafoni rocks and high peaks. It is possible to carry our several and varied routes.Along the route it is possible to meet shoals of salema porgies, white seabreams, barracudas, and big groupers. From the open sea, often shoals of greater amberjacks or big dentexes come, and barracudas often swim among the reliefs.
In the shady areas, multicolored sponges live and moray eels, scorpionfish, and codfish find shelter. In the upper areas, the reliefs are surrounded by shoals of damselfish, in the depths the setting is dominated by the swallowtail seaperch.
SCOGLIO DEL PILASTRINO
In the channel separating La Maddalena from the mainland, next to the shore several granite rocks emerge from the water, and one of them is characterized by the presence of a warning pillar for seagoing staff. Around it, a granite seabed slopes down, covered with big blocks forming ravines, channels, and deep fissures. The bottom reaches the 25m, but you can enjoy the site already from the first meters of depth for the extraordinary biodiversity characterizing it.The seaweed formation covering the rocks houses pronged yellow formations of Gold Sponge (Aplysina aerophoba), a protected sponge which is replaced in the shady area by the Yellow cave Sponge (Aplysina cavernicola).
The ravines and the fissures between the rocks favor and accelerate the passage of the currents which provide food to a great number of organisms filtering water: they are mainly sponges, bryozoans, and ascidians, with the Yellow Cluster Anemone forming a lively yellow background, sometimes interrupted by red gorgonians. Shoals of Common two-banded Seabreams find shelter under the granite vaults, while in the detritus areas the local Caulerpa prolifera grows.
SCOGLIO DI SPARGIOTTO
A big submerged relief, whose top lies at 3m from the surface, slopes down in crags towards the depth, divided into two parts by a ravine with a sandy bottom whose deepest point lies at 26m. At the foot of the relief, big granite boulders alternate with patches of Posidonia and detritus, while on the rock there are forms of erosion like tafoni, deep cracks, and underwater landslides.
From the buoys situated at 5m of depth, several itineraries branch off.Thick shoals of salema porgies, white seabreams, and damselfish populate the granite rocks, while the characteristic points of the site are situated in the transition areas between the illuminated and the shady areas influenced by the characteristic shapes of the tafoni rocks and the exposure.
Widespread on the relief there are the seaweed Caulerpa racemosa and populations of gorgonians, characterizing the site.
Among the protected species, a discontinuous grassland of Posidonia is worth a mention: it is set in detritus areas between the rocks and on the bottom. Also here it is possible to meet big specimens of particularly confident groupers.
TAVOLARA ISLAND
Unique and original, Tavolara is the largest and most charming island in the territory of the marine protected area. In the Paleolithic period, about 37 thousand years ago, a deep watercourse ran between Tavolara and Molara. The current archipelago was linked to the land and could be reached on foot by crossing woods and Mediterranean maquis. The first human traces in Tavolara date back to this period: as a matter of fact in Grotta del Papa, whose name derives from the resemblance of some rocks to the papal tiara, rupestrian paintings and other traces of the Bonu Ighinu culture have been found (middle Neolithic). Since about 8 thousand years, the Cave is only accessible from the sea and islands have formed.
Tavolara is characterized by high and steep ridges (cliffs) on which the result of the water erosion is evident: it takes the shape of showers of calcareous dissolution, natural arches, coastal pipes and caves intercalated by detritus layers, conglomerate and sandstone fossiliferous banks, among which the wonderful beach of Spalmatore di terra, witnessing the last interglacial period characterized by a subtropical climate.
SCOGLIO DEL GOTTO
In the north of Scoglio di Barettinelli di Fuori, where you will find a lighthouse, some granite rocks emerge from the water.
The diving activity develops around them and in the channel dividing the two reliefs, characterized by piles of boulders and deep fissures. On the northern slope, the rock ends on a detrital seabed at about 25m of depth and the contact areas are characterized by coralligenous environments.
Several route are possible.
This environment is formed by red gorgonians (Paramuricea clavata) with their red branches offering hospitality and shelter to many other organisms.
The ravines offer shelter to big codfish and several morays.
On the detrital bottom there are evident ripple marks formed by the currents, that are a constant feature of the environments of the Archipelago.
SCOGLIO DI MORTORIOTTO
Together with the nearby islands, Mortorio is the southernmost spur of the Park, situated in the “MA area”. Immediately outside it, there is Scoglio di Mortoriotto, formed by two granite rocks, the outermost characterized by the presence of a navigation light.
The seabed slopes down in crags until it reaches a detrital bottom at 40m with scattered boulders and coralligenous formations. The upper section of the relief is characterized by the channel separating the two outcropping rocks. The central feature of the diving activity is represented by the coralligenous environment which, between the 36 and 40 meters of depth characterizes the relief: the area is further enriched by the presence of some colonies of false coral (Savalia savaglia), some of the few present at such limited depths. Around it, thick formations of gorgonians grow and the ravines conceal lobsters, red scorpionfish, and moray eels.
The diving activity develops along the relief and you reemerge after passing various rock crags covered by bright orange sponges. If well-managed, the diving activity can end in the shoal between the two rocks where, among spectacular light games, it is possible to meet shoals of damselfish, salema porgies, and sometimes white seabreams, barracudas, greater amberjacks, and dentexes.
SECCA DI SPARGI ( Washington)
Also called Secca Washington (Washington Shoal), it is formed by a large rocky relief whose top lies at 6 meters from the surface.
It consists of huge granite blocks, eroded in aerial environment, surrounded by boulders, landslides, tafoni, and depressions that in the deepest points reach the 25m. The possible itineraries, several and varied, branch off from the four buoys anchored to the seabed, situated at about 4m from the surface, well visible if weather conditions are fine. The characteristic contrast between illuminated areas, covered by formations of photophilic seaweed, and the shady areas, where thousands of multicolored animal organisms collect, is the thread of the diving activity together with the abundance and variety of fish. The big groupers, brown meagers, white seabreams, common dentexes, and barracudas are rather confident and are easily approachable. In the shady areas, the most widespread protected area is the sponge Aplysina cavernicola, characteristic of the environments with scarce light, while the population of red gorgonians enriches the landscape with its colonies settled at the greatest depths.
